Ask Sallie: Why Is it Important to Shop From Women-owned Businesses? (Video)

By Sallie Krawcheck

It’s officially the holiday season, which means — shopping. And at Ellevest, we’re big on shopping women-owned. Sallie will tell you why.

Sallie’s answer:

Uh, because it is. Because it is.

But if you want some additional reasons, I’ll ask you: What are the bad things that happen when women have more money? When women’s businesses are successful? The answer is nothing. It’s all good.

Everything we do with every dollar has an impact. Whether we know it or not, we express our values by the way that we spend our money. And so, when you put your dollars toward women-owned businesses, toward minority-owned businesses, you’re making a statement.

And very importantly, let’s also remember that those businesses tend to get smaller small business loans at higher rates. And so showing the support gives them the revenue to continue to be successful, which has a positive ripple effect on our society.
