Your Milestones and Money Wins in 2021

By Sallie Krawcheck

It’s peak year-in-review season. And if 2021 has taught us anything, it’s that plenty can happen in a year. (2021 certainly had “range.”) Perhaps most importantly: It was a year in which money stress made women literally sick.

But here’s the good news. You aren’t just “still standing.” You’re taking action on your money and career, in ways that can allow you to live the life your grandmother could only dream about.

You're part of a community of women who. are. doing. the. thing.

For women, money can feel lonely, emotional, even taboo. (In fact, one in three women would rather share their personal browser search history than their bank statements and investment accounts with friends.)

But you’ve helped to make Ellevest an online community of 3 million women talking about money regularly: 50,000 of you signed up for workshops, 24,656 of you downloaded our worksheets, and, collectively, you spent a 4,000 hours talking about money and careers in 1:1 and small-group coaching sessions.

There, you figured out what kind of lives you want to build, strategized on how to earn more, and found purpose in your careers (even if that meant leaving the job you had — the one you would have described as “fine”).

As a result, this community has helped each other make taking action on your career and money doable. Cool. Fun, even.

In doing so, you are helping to build a rocket ship for women

Only this rocket ship doesn't look like a giant you-know-what. And your mission was loftier — you’re changing the game for women and money and yourself. Together, there are 120,000 of you women investing a collective $1.362 billion with Ellevest.* Even better, this isn’t a one-time thing: You are doing this while making investing a habit, given that 75% of women+ who invest with us have recurring deposits. (Now that’s practicing financial wellness.)

You’re investing intentionally to make a better world for women

Even better? Your investments are not just helping you; they’re doing double duty. $466 million of the money that you’ve invested with Ellevest is invested in impact-focused portfolios built to advance women and tackle issues like racial injustice and climate change.**

You grew and took action

I’ve always believed there’s strength in numbers. That’s why these wins feel so revelatory — because there’s so many more of you taking action with your money and career than ever before.

Trust me, we know that the pandemic continues to disproportionately impact women — there is, and will continue to be, a great deal of work ahead of us on that front. We live in a country that needs systemic answers to systemic problems.

But despite this, in 2021, you moved forward to build the life you want. And here’s what I want to pin to 2021 — your wins. All of them.
